A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
The advisory is for all of Connecticut except the coastline as well as Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and northern Westchester Counties in New York and Passaic County in New Jersey. Litchfield County is under a Wind Chill Warning, and the Connecticut coastline and New York City has a special statement on the frigid wind chills.
What to expect: Very cold wind chills, which can cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin. Wind chills will range from 10 below zero to 20 below zero.
Residents are reminded to wear a hat and gloves because of the dangers of frostbite and hypothermia.
On Sunday, it will be sunny and cold, with a high near 14 during the day but with wind chill values between zero and 5. The northwest wind will be 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.
Sunday night will be mostly clear, with a low of about -1. Wind chill values will be between -5 and -15. Northwest winds will be about 9 mph.
Monday — New Year's Day — will be sunny but cold, with a high near 12. The wind chill values will be between -5 and -15.
The low temp Monday night will be about 4 degrees, with wind chill values between -5 and zero.
For the start of the work week on Tuesday, it will be mostly sunny but still cold, with a high near 18 degrees.
