Escaped Fugitive Caught In CT, US Marshals Say A convicted drug dealer who escaped from a federal prison facility in Georgia last month has been captured in Connecticut. The US Marshals Service announced that 43-year-old Israel Rodriguez-Zayes has been apprehended and was taken into custody this week by members of the Violent Fugitive Task Force in Willimantic. In 2013, Rodriguez-Zayes was sentenced to 15 years in prison for selling crack cocaine, heroin and using weapons to advance a drug trafficking crime. Willimantic resident Mohammadreza “Reza” Kamali, 18, has pleaded guilty in New Haven district court to one count of dealing in firearms without a license, U.S. Attorney John Durham announced this week. Double Homicide Suspect Arrested As Fugitive In Connecticut An out-of-state fugitive suspected in a double murder was arrested Monday, Jan. 29, at about 4:45 p.m. in Connecticut. Connecticut State Police detectives from Eastern District Major Crime were contacted by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina requesting assistance in locating a suspect wanted for a double homicide in Aiken, S.C. Charles Monzillo, Former Danbury Fire Chief, Dies At 91 DANBURY, Conn. — Charles Joseph Monzillo, a former Danbury fire chief who moved to Clermont, Fla., died Jan. 15 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was 91. Born on Oct. 4, 1926 to Biagio and Hertha Monzillo, he grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. and led a life full of service to others. Monzillo served in the Army Air Corp during WWII, Transit Police of New York City and following that, 25 years of service to the New York Fire Department.  After retiring from New York, he became fire chief in Willimantic, later moving to the Danbury department for several years.
