Truck Fire Causes Closure Of Busy Roadway In Westport A truck fire closed the Newtown Turnpike in Westport for more than an hour on Wednesday, May 29. Westport firefighters responded to the call for a fire in the back of a pickup truck around 5:48 a.m., the department said. Arriving companies, including two fire engines and the shift commander, found a pick-up truck in the roadway on fire.  Firefighters quickly stretched a fire hose line and doused the fire within minutes, the department said. There were no reported injuries. The fire is under investigation by the Westport Fire Marshal’s Office.

Van Slams Into Utility Pole In Westport Some Westport residents were without power for several hours after a van slammed into a utility pole, snapping it in half. The incident took place on Wedgewood Road in the afternoon on Thursday, April 18,  said the Westport Fire Department. Police, fire and emergency personnel responded to the crash, that damaged the pole, in turn, causing a power outage in the area.
