Alert Issued For First-Degree Rape Suspect Wanted In Area
An alert has been issued for an area man wanted for rape in the first degree. The Putnam County Sheriff's Department reported on Wednesday, Sept. 9 that Jose Tapia, 45, has a warrant in his name for the felonies of first-degree rape and first-degree criminal contempt. That's in addition to the misdemeanors of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing. Tapia's last known place of residence was in Peekskill. A 51-year-old woman has been charged after police say she was found to be in possession of crack cocaine during a traffic stop. Man Living In Danbury Charged With Selling Crack Cocaine, Heroin
A lengthy investigation into the sale of crack cocaine in Putnam County led to the arrest of a man in Florida who was busted attempting to sell firearms in Orlando, the Sheriff’s Department announced. In November last year, the Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit received a tip that Rafael Veras-Molina, 28, of Orlando, who temporarily lived in Danbury, was selling crack-cocaine and heroin in Putnam. Search For Missing CT Man Causes Closures Of Lake Carmel
Lake Carmel is closed to swimmers and boaters as emergency responders search for a missing man. The Lake Carmel Fire Department said it was dispatched on a report of a missing swimmer at around 7:35 p.m. Saturday, July 20. The man has been identified as a Connecticut resident in his 50s. The department was assisted in the search by the Carmel Fire Department, Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department dive team and Putnam County Sheriff's Department, Kent Police. Two women are facing felony larceny charges following a string of larcenies in Putnam County in which authorities say stolen credits were used to make purchases in four neighboring counties. A lightning strike on Lake Mahopac sent three people out boating to the hospital and slightly injured another. The incident took place around 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 4 when Putnam County Sheriff's Sgt.
