Danbury Firefighter Kenneth Flynn Jr. 'Coach Grandpa' Dies DANBURTY, Conn. -- Former Danbury firefighter Kenneth P. Flynn died on Jan. 17.  Affectionately known as “Coach Grandpa,” he was a lifelong Danbury resident. Ken was a dedicated employee of Danbury Hospital for 39 years and a volunteer firefighter at Miry Brook Fire Department. He loved playing softball and enjoyed time coaching, especially his grandchildren’s baseball teams.  He is predeceased by his father, Kenneth P. Flynn, Sr., and his brother, Richard Flynn. Shed Destroyed By Fire In Frigid Weather In Danbury DANBURY, Conn. — Danbury firefighters quickly extinguished a fully involved blaze in a shed near a home on Jackson Drive on Friday afternoon, the department said in a statement.  A 911 call came in at about 12:50 p.m. Friday about the fire, said a statement from James Gagliardo, communications coordinator for the department. When firefighters arrived, they found the shed in flames but posing no threat to the nearby home at 12 Jackson Drive, Gagliardo said.
