23 Small Aftershocks Reported By USGS In 23 Hours After New Jersey Earthquake
The USGS is reporting 23 aftershocks in the 23 hours since the New Jersey earthquake that rattled the Northeast. The initial earthquake had a magnitude of 4.8 and was reported in Whitehouse Station at 10:23 a.m. Friday, April 5. Tremors were felt by more than four million people from Maryland to New Hampshire. The first aftershock was reported just under an hour later at 11:20 a.m. 6 km NNE of Whitehouse Station with a magnitude of 2.0. FDA Recalls Westport Oysters After Norovirus Outbreak
The US Food and Drug Administration has recalled oysters grown and harvested in Connecticut following an outbreak of norovirus. In a notice on Thursday, March 14, the FDA said the outbreak was caused by oysters sold by Norwalk-based Norm Bloom and Son harvested in February. Although the FDA did not give many how many people were sickened, they did reveal the contaminated batch was associated with an outbreak in Minnesota. Juvenile Nabbed For 'Swatting' Stamford Home, School At Least 10 Times
An online gaming feud led to the arrest of a juvenile for swatting a Fairfield County home and school at least 10 times. The juvenile living in Maryland was charged on Thursday, Feb. 22 by the Stamford Police. According to Capt. Eugene Dohmann of the Stamford Police Department, swatting is a term used to describe the act of reporting a false critical incident to cause a massive response by emergency service personnel. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has ordered a recall of two different charcuterie meat trays after they were linked to a salmonella outbreak. Forty-seven people across 22 states have gotten sick with salmonella after eating the potentially contaminated meats, which are sold at Costco and Sam’s Club locations across the country, the CDC announced on Thursday, Jan. 18. TGI Fridays is closing nearly 30 "underperforming" locations across the northeast and will sell eight restaurants to the chain's former CEO, the chain said in a news release.
