Metro-North Service Suspended As Snow Becomes Heavier During Nor'easter
Metro-North trains will be temporarily suspending service as the rate of snowfall during the Nor'easter has become heavier, creating potential travel hazards. MTA officials announced that with major snow accumulation and high winds creating increasingly hazardous travel conditions, Metro-North will shut down service with the last trains departing Grand Central Terminal at approximately 3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1. The Metropolitan Transit Authority is taking drastic measures to help clean up the public transit system for essential workers during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. During his daily COVID-19 briefing, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and MTA officials announced that Metro-North, LIRR, and New York City subway trains and stations would be disinfected every 24 hours to curb the spread of the virus. With commuters staying home due to the novel coronavirus outbreak that’s gripping the nation, the MTA announced it will be cutting down its service amid historically low ridership numbers. The MTA is doubling down on cleaning efforts as ridership continues to decline due to the outbreak of COVID-19. 10-Point Plan To 'Transform' MTA Unveiled By Cuomo, de Blasio
Elected officials in New York have reached an agreement on a new plan to “transform” travel in the state. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio have introduced a 10-point proposal to transform the MTA and create “dedicated and sustained funding streams for the agency.” The plan includes “congestion” tolling and a reorganization of the MTA. Metro-North Issues 24-Hour Ban On Alcohol During SantaCon
Santa Claus is set to come to town this weekend, but he’ll be doing it sober if he takes a Metro-North train instead of his sleigh. With SantaCon scheduled this weekend in the area, the MTA announced that it was instituting a 24-hour ban on alcohol on Metro-North trains and stations. Waze Aims To Provide Metro-North Rail-Crossing Alerts
Long overdue, but will it save lives at dangerous area railroad crossings? Time will tell.
