Hundreds Take Part In Funeral For Firefighter Killed Battling Blaze: 'He Had Heart Of Gold'
Mourners lined the roads leading to the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford on Monday, Oct. 28, to pay their respects to Robert "Sharkey" Sharkevich Sr. His casket was carried by a fire engine that was preceded by a cadre of police vehicles. His casket, draped in an American flag, was carried to its final resting place by his family and the firefighters who served alongside him. Sharkevich Sr., age 66, was a lifelong firefighter. New Canaan Police Officers Risk Their Lives To Save Burning Motorist
Two police officers are being recognized for saving the life a person who was on fire following a vehicle crash in New Canaan. The incident took place around 9 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 19, when responding to a report of a vehicle fire on Rosebrook Road, said New Canaan Police Chief Leon Krolikowski. Officers arrived within minutes of being dispatched, and found a vehicle off the road, fully engulfed in flames. Two of the arriving officers, Sgt. A school resource officer saved two people when a vehicle began rolling downhill into traffic without a driver behind the wheel. Two Cited For Heroic Actions In Rescuing Would-Be Bridge Jumper In Norwalk
The Norwalk Police Commission has awarded two local residents for their heroic actions. Juan Garcia and Donald Remson received a Civilian Recognition Award on Monday, Dec. 17 for the actions they displayed in an incident earlier in the month. On Saturday, Dec. 8, Garcia witnessed a woman attempting to jump off Stroffolino Bridge. He exited his vehicle while telling his daughter, who was with him at the time, to call 911. Garcia then grabbed the woman as she was climbing over the bridge’s railing. Garcia was able to grab the woman but unable to help her back over the railing and to safety. …

Woman Rescued From Burning Car On I-95
Quick action by two witnesses to a car crash saved a Norwalk woman's life after she experienced a medical emergency on I-95. The incident took place around noon Wednesday when both Bridgeport resident Frederico Davis and Connecticut Conservation Police Officer John Hey witnessed a two-car motor vehicle accident in the area of the Black Rock Turnpike overpass, said officials with the Fairfield Fire Department.
