The derailment took place around 7:25 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 14 at the Elm Street station, causing heavier than normal traffic in the area of Elm Street and Park Street due to the ongoing investigation, said the New Canaan Police. Train Derails Near New Canaan Station New Update: Metro-North Service Resumes After Train Derails Near New Canaan Station Metro-North New Canaan branch service is temporarily suspended on Tuesday morning, Feb. 14 because of a non-passenger train derailment near the New Canaan station, according to authorities.  "We are attempting to secure buses but until they are on scene, please travel to Stamford for service to Grand Central as well as other destinations," Metro-North said in a statement just before 8:30 a.m. This is a developing story. ID Released For Man Struck, Killed By Metro-North Train Near Darien Metro-North officials have released the identity of a 50-year-old man who was hit and killed by a train last week. John Hickey, 50, of New Canaan, was struck and killed Thursday night near Darien, said Metro-North officials. The incident took place around 7:35 p.m. Dec. 13 at Noroton Heights. The train had departed Grand Central at 6:49 p.m. headed for New Haven. Hickey was pronounced dead at the scene.  MTA Police are investigating.

Tricia Plotnik, 35, of Milford, was hit around 9 p.m. by a Grand Central-bound train just east of the Milford train station, said MTA spokesman Aaron Donovan. The incident caused delays, but MTA officials don't believe any criminal activity was involved. MTA police are investigating the incident, Donovan said.
