A small brush fire in Connecticut spread to a home in New London County in the very early morning of Saturday, Nov. 9, authorities said. The blaze comes as firefighters across the state have warned residents about dry conditions turning the landscape into a tinderbox. Major Brush Fire In NY Spreads Smoke Into Fairfield County
A major brush fire over at least a dozen acres in the Hudson Valley produced smoke that spread across the New York border into Connecticut. The blaze broke out at around 12:05 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 in Putnam County in the area of Route 301 and East Boyds Road in the town of Kent and was finally contained late in the day on Sunday, Oct. 27. Westport Bans All Outdoor Burning, Including Fire Pits
Even with the cool nights, Westport residents can forget about starting that fire pit now that all outside burning has been banned in the town. Westport Fire Marshal Terrence Dunn instituted the ban on Tuesday, May 16, on all outside burning until further notice due to extremely dry conditions. He also pointed to the Red Flag warning issued by the National Weather Service for all of Fairfield County and a large part of the state. The storm system that swept through the area has pushed off the coast, leading to dry conditions to start the new year and new decade before another unsettled stretch arrives later in the week. New Year's Eve Day, Tuesday, Dec. 31 will be a cloudy and breezy day with a high temperature in the mid 40s. As for the evening, look for mostly cloudy skies.
