Former UConn Basketball Player Killed His Mother In Florida, Police Say
A former UConn men's basketball player is accused of killing his mother in Florida, authorities said. Eric Cobb, 28, was arrested in the death of 51-year-old Erika Winford, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Cobb was charged with second-degree murder and denied bail, according to jail records. Officers found Winford unresponsive, wrapped in a blanket and towels, at a "disturbing scene" behind a home on 15th Street West in the Mid-Westside neighborhood. With a record number of COVID-19 cases plaguing the entire state, a college in Connecticut announced that it will be banning spectators from attending athletic events in an effort to curtail the spread of the virus. In Fairfield County, Western Connecticut State University in Danbury issued an alert to announce that beginning with the men’s and women’s doubleheader against UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday, Jan. 5, no spectators will be permitted at events. The New York teenager and former Sacred Heart University student who admitted to making false rape allegations against a pair of football players is heading to jail. Nikki Yovino, who accepted a plea deal in Connecticut earlier this year, has been sentenced to a year in jail for making up rape allegations against two men.
