'Trusted Mentor, Loyal Friend': Monroe Community Grapples With Firefighter's Death A Connecticut community is preparing to bury one of its heroes after the longtime Fairfield County firefighter died earlier this week.  John "JB" Pyrek-Bennett, of Monroe, was just 55 when he died on Monday, Oct. 14, surrounded by his family at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, his obituary said. His wife of 29 years and three children survive him. Bennett spent his life giving back to his community, his family said. He served as assistant chief of the Glenbrook Fire Department in Stamford and was a lifetime member of the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department.…

ID Released For Man, 54, Killed After Crash Into Trumbull Home A 54-year-old Trumbull man who died after driving his pickup truck into a home has been identified. Eric Gabrielson, of Oldfield Road, was killed around 7 p.m., Friday, May 3, in the area of Daniels Farm Road during a two-vehicle crash that ended with the pickup truck hitting the side of a home, said Trumbull Police Lt. Brian Weir. According to Weir, the pick-up truck and a sedan collided, and the pick-up truck eventually came in contact with a nearby residence. Airman Who Grew Up In Fairfield County Killed In Crash A U.S. Airman from Bridgeport who died in a multiple-vehicle crash in Idaho will be remembered Sunday, July 1. Lawrence Manlapit III, 29, the son of Lawrence Manlapit, Jr. and Dorine Norko, who is a transportation specialist for the Bridgeport public schools, was killed June 16 in a multi-vehicle crash on I-84 outside of Boise, Idaho, said the Idaho State Police. Two other airmen and a truck driver were also killed in the crash, police said.
