The Hartford Marathon Foundation, which is organizing the event, said the 6,500 runner capacity for the Danbury site had already been reached. The move to Hartford will allow more runners to compete. The previous announced capacity had been 10,000 runners.
In an announcement on the race website, the organizers said registered runners may change to virtual runner registration or request a full refund. Proceeds from the race benefit the Sandy Hook School Support Fund.
The race had originally been planned for Western Connecticut State University’s Westside campus. An overwhelming response caused the organizers to plan the race for downtown Danbury before the latest move.
