Peter Lingenheld, dean of students, said, "This young man demonstrates what, again, to me is a really interesting telltale balance, in that he doesn't really go out of his way to draw a ton of attention to himself, but if he's not in class or at practice or at jobs, you immediately know he's not there. Something is just missing."

Everett, a Danbury resident, is also known as a role model in the middle school as he is highly regarded as a good listener.

His coaches note that he was the anchor of the boys soccer team this fall, and once he became the full-time sweeper the team took off. He was a leader, a mentally strong and determined player, most notably in that he would never give up on a play.

His Spanish teacher said Everett is a kind, respectful and good-humored student. He makes others feel comfortable and at ease. Like his hero, Jackie Robinson, he is willing to fight hardship and invisible yet palpable barriers by treating others how he would like to be treated.

An Upper School job captain said: "I know outstandings need to be earned, but if there is one kid who deserves it in this school it is Ben. When I had Ben last year after the original job captain in his area left, I could tell he was a hard worker. He stepped up to the plate of being a job captain and flew like a bird. This year he kept up his game and, needless to say, I am impressed. He was always the first to come and the last to leave."

His adviser said: "Ben is one of the kindest and most compassionate students I have met at Wooster. He is always willing to help others when they are in need and never expects any praise for doing so. He is simply a wonderful kid and a pleasure to be around."
