Sibyl Brooks has been appointed as the interim principal of Hayestown Avenue Elementary School. Her most recent administrative position involved providing leadership and direct supervision, including the evaluation of 39 teachers as part of the Connecticut Technical High School System in Hamden. She also served as an administrator at Wilbur Cross School in Bridgeport, where she was involved in data teams, PPTs, SATs, and focusing on student learning with emphasis on closing identified achievement gaps.
Tina Hislop, who is working on her doctorate in instructional leadership at Western Connecticut State University, will be the interim principal at King Street primary and intermediate schools, where she has been assistant principal the past three years. Hislop has 18 years of experience in the Danbury school system. Before working at King Street, Hislop served as the assistant principal at Rogers Park Middle School for seven years, where she worked closely with the math departments at both district middle schools and supported positive character programs.
“The roots of my careers are in the classroom, where I served as a fifth-grade teacher at Roberts Avenue elementary school (now Ellsworth) and as a sixth-grade math teacher,” Hislop said in a statement. “I am excited to continue the meaningful collaboration of the King Street Campus to provide rigorous academic opportunities for our students in a nurturing environment.”
Kristy Zaleta will be the interim assistant principal for instruction at the middle schools. Her appointment is part of the $1.7 million state Alliance Grant. Zaleta has been a science teacher at Rogers Park Middle School since 2003; in 2013, she was named Danbury’s Teacher of the Year. An educational doctoral candidate at Western Connecticut State University, Zaleta’s dissertation focuses on the effect of authentic learning on middle school students’ science process skills and engagement in science.
“I look forward to working with the building administrators and curriculum coordinators to strengthen instruction at the middle school level as well as establish even greater alignment between the schools,” Zaleta said in a statement.
Kris Davidson has been appointed interim high school assistant principal. He has spent his entire career in education at Danbury High School, including seven years as a business teacher and the past two years managing the Building A Collaborative Culture grant, which was awarded by the Nellie Mae Education Foundation.
“I am very excited to take on this new role as assistant principal at Danbury High and to continue to be a part of the great things that go on here every day as we work to make Danbury the best district that it can be,” Davidson said in a statement. “Our teachers and students are second to none and there is no other group I'd rather work with on a daily basis.”
Superintendent of Schools Sal Pascarella is pleased with the quality of the interim placements. “It’s important to minimize transitions during the school year and have someone in place for the entire year to provide support for the students and staff,” he said in a statement.
