In a recent phone conversation, Joe Martino, the director of finance for the school district, said the break has since been fixed and the school will reopen Wednesday morning as scheduled.
"The break was a plastic fitting on a toilet that was not due to the cold weather. It just decided to break at this time," Martino said.
Martino said the leak was discovered at 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.
"Usually, there are activities over the weekend at the school but since it was a long weekend, there was no one at the school to discover it earlier," he said.
He said plumbers responded quickly to the break.
"It has been fixed already, we had a remediation contractor and our custodial staff working on it. We brought in big dehumidifiers to sanitize the carpets," he said.
He said while there were isolated wet carpets, no books got damaged.
