DANBURY, Conn. – The Danbury Knights of Columbus Consul 29 recently donated 250 jackets and coats that school district officials said will be given to Danbury’s most needy children.
According to a statement on the school district’s Facebook page, 37 children at Shelter Rock Elementary School were among those to benefit from the Coats for Kids event, which was coordinated by the Knights of Columbus, Danbury resident William Taylor and Shelter Rock social worker Caroline Crouch.
“Some students don’t have coats,” said Shelter Rock Principal Dawn Bartz. “Caroline is my miracle worker. She finds people who are needy … it’s like a village.”
Crouch, who said Danbury is a community with strong leadership, credited Taylor, a father of six grown children, for his efforts. Two of Taylor’s grandchildren attend Shelter Rock.
The Knights of Columbus has been donating coats to local children for more than four years.
