It began with the entrance song “We Are Called,” as the graduates filed in and took their seats for the Mass and commencement speeches.
Salutatorian Sean McCoy did the readings, and Deacon Jeff Font offered the gospel and sermon. “You must never lose sight of where you came from. Next year will set your course as you leave the nest of your parents,” Font said.
“A Catholic education teaches you to be close to God. You will be called upon to make many choices in life.”
The gifts were presented by Class of 1966 members Vickey Hickey, Bridget Murphy, Doris Peterson, Colleen Santaniello and Elaine Schmeltz.
The Communion reflection song "The Prayer" was sung by Jack Garvey and Isabella Mercaldo. A final blessing was given by the Most Rev. Frank J. Caggiano, bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport.
Class valedictorian Taylor Ann Guth offered up the traditional address to her fellow graduates. “To my classmates, thank you for being my extended family. Trust that this is God’s plan and that this is the place to be. Attending Immaculate High has been the greatest experience of my life,” Guth said.
Caggiano joined Mary Ann Foncello and Joseph Carmen in distributing the diplomas as each member of the class was called by name and congratulated.
