New Leader Gets To Work At Danbury’s Stadley Rough School

DANBURY, Conn. – Norwalk’s loss turned into Danbury’s gain this week with the arrival of new Stadley Rough School Principal Edward Wachowski.

The Bethel resident had served as assistant principal in Norwalk at Silvermine Elementary School over the past four years and before that taught fourth and fifth grade at Julian Curtiss School in Greenwich for 10 years.

Wachowski said he is looking forward to the challenge of overseeing a new school. His tenure in the Norwalk school system, which has similar demographics as Danbury, will help him in the new job, he said.

“The issues and challenges are similar,” Wachowski said. “The work we did there was a nice fit for the Danbury district.”

At Stadley Rough, one of several Danbury schools with an increase in enrollment this year, Wachowski said his main priority will be improving the school’s common core standards in literacy and math. That is no easy task because officials say that nearly half of the city’s students live at the poverty level.

Wachowski has met with many of the school’s parents, whom he plans to enlist in helping students. “We’re working to improve student achievement.”

Additionally, he said the staff will work to instill a sense of pride and purpose among students, summed up in the phrase “Be safe, be respectful and be responsible.”

“Our expectations are that wherever these students may be, we want them to follow those guidelines,” Wachowski said.
