Her project, titled "Biological Control of the Emerald Ash Borer Using Entomopathogenic Fungi and Nematodes," was entered into the environmental sciences category and came away with first place. Earlier this year, Kerr took fifth place with the same project at the Connecticut Junior Science and Humanities Symposium.
Kerr, who just completed her sophomore year at Danbury High, was one of 330 students from around the world hosted at SUNY-Oswego for the third annual GENIUS Olympiad. Participants came from 44 countries and 30 states.
Along with a medal and certificate for her first place win, Kerr won a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, a prize handed out to about 30 participants.
