Students from public and parochial elementary schools in the greater Danbury area participated in the contest by submitting an essay about a woman of influence.
“This essay contest brings area schools, students, teachers and parents together in a collaborative effort which encourages children to research and write about influential and inspiring Connecticut women," Sen. McLachlan said.
The essay contest winners are:

- Bianca Champion (Broadview Middle School, Danbury)
- Joseph Falcao (St. Gregory the Great School, Danbury)
- Amisha Malkani (Bethel Middle School)
- Jacqueline Malanga (New Fairfield Middle School)
- Pedro Reis (St. Peter School, Danbury)
