DANBURY, Conn. -- Following the longstanding Danbury High School tradition, the Class of 2014, along with their families, friends, staff members and city officials, will gather for an outdoor graduation ceremony at the school's stadium at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 17.

The weather is expected to cooperate, with sunny skies and a high temperatures of 85 degrees as more than 600 graduates hike up to the field for commencement exercises. If the forecast takes a turn toward rain, the ceremony will be rescheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 18.

"I look forward to celebrating the successes of the Class of 2014 with the graduates and their families that evening," Principal Gary Bocaccio said in a statement.

Graduating seniors are asked to arrive in the school's auditorium no later than 4 p.m. Tuesday. People attending the graduation are encouraged to carpool because of the large crowd expected and the limited amount of parking available at the high school. Seating in the stands and on the grounds is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Graduates who are members of clubs that do community service will have an extra colorful tassel on their caps, with gold for National Honor Society members and multicolored for National Art Honor Society members, for example. Students who have earned a Grade Point Average of 4.0 or above will wear a gold cord.

Valedictorian Priyanka Altman and the class president are expected to make speeches during the ceremony.

Members of the Board of Education will hand out diplomas, and Principal Gary Bocaccio will shake all the graduates' hands. Mayor Mark Boughton and Superintendent Sal Pascarella are expected to attend as well.

The graduation ceremony can also be watched live online from a stream on YouTube. Click here to watch beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday

The school year may be over for the seniors at Danbury High School. But students in kindergarten through Grade 11 in Danbury have classes for the rest of the week. The last day of school in Danbury is Friday, June 20. All schools are on early dismissal on Friday.
