Murphy Steps Off For 2nd Walk Across CT, With Stops In Newtown, Danbury

For the second summer in a row, U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) will embark on a “Walk Across Connecticut,” taking to the streets and dirt roads to listen to and get feedback from Connecticut residents.

Murphy will begin his walk in Killingly on Sunday morning, and walk 103 miles through 21 towns over the next five days.

The trip will end in northern Fairfield County, with a stop Wednesday evening in Newtown and an end of walk picnic lunch on Thursday in Danbury.

The senator will hold a series of pop-up town halls each night along his route, where he will hear firsthand from Connecticut residents about a variety of topics.

Members of the public are invited to attend Murphy’s town halls. Here are the dates, and locations, but the times are approximate:

Day 1: Willimantic Town Hall, Sunday, Aug. 13, at 5:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Instructional Center at at Eastern Connecticut State University, 83 Windham St., Willimantic
Day 2: Portland Town Hall, Monday, Aug. 14, at 6:30 p.m. Outdoor Amphitheater at YMCA Camp Ingersoll, 94 Camp Ingersoll Road, Portland
Day 3: Waterbury Town Hall, Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m., Gym at Chase Elementary School, 40 Woodtick Road, Waterbury
Day 4: Newtown Town Hall, Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 6:30 p.m., Gym at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main St., Newtown
Day 5: End of Walk Picnic in Danbury, Thursday, Aug. 17, at noon at Rogers Park, 21 Memorial Drive, Danbury

This year's planned itinerary takes an inland route through the Nutmeg State. Last year, he walked along the coastline. Murphy made a stop in Stratford last year, then walked through Bridgeport, Fairfield, Westport, Norwalk, Darien and Stamford before holding a last day picnic in Greenwich.

Over the weekend, Murphy took to Twitter to draw attention to his Walk Across Connecticut.

"I hope you'll follow along as I #WalkCT. 105 miles. 5 days. I promise the stories I pass along will revive your spirit too," Murphy said via Twitter @ChrisMurphyCT on Saturday, after a day of violence in Charlottesville, Va.

"My walk across CT last year renewed my faith in the decency of people. After last 24 hours, so glad to be starting this years walk tomorrow."
