DANBURY, Conn. – State Rep. Michael Ferguson returned to his old stomping grounds at King Street Primary School in Danbury on Thursday to read a book to a class of second-graders and promote the power of reading.

It was all part of Read Across America Day — a nationwide celebration that takes place annually on March 2, which is Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

Ferguson, a former student at King Street School, read a Dr. Seuss book to Lorena Tesbir’s second grade class called "One Vote, Two Votes, I Vote, You Vote," which explained how we vote, why we vote, and who we vote for in a way that children can understand.

“I was so grateful to have this opportunity to read to a class of second-graders in recognition of Read Across America Day, which seeks to inspire kids to love reading,” Ferguson said. “It made it even more special that I actually had Miss Tesbir as a second-grader at King Street School when I attended there.”

Ferguson is a member of the General Assembly’s Education Committee and a member of the Danbury Board of Education. He has pursued policies that will make sure Danbury schools receive sufficient funding to provide for its growing population.

“After listening to 12 hours of public hearing testimony in the Education Committee at the Capitol yesterday, visiting that classroom and seeing those children learning really puts all of that into perspective for me. I got so much out of my public school education in Danbury and my exceptional teachers. I want to do everything I can do give back to this community so that the next generation of children are given the same opportunities to succeed in school as I had,” Ferguson said.

Ferguson encourages any constituent interested in education issues contact him at his by calling his office at 860-240-1423 or by emailing him at

Ferguson represents the 138th District communities of Danbury, New Fairfield, and Ridgefield.
