In just one hour, the Republican lawmakers raised enough funds to help the caucus collectively reach an impressive sum of $41,000 and help Wal-Mart to make its promised donation of $25,000 to The Salvation Army that will ultimately go to local families in need.

“The holidays are a difficult time for all of us when it comes to finances and budgeting,” said Giegler. “But that’s just what makes the success of this event so remarkable: I’m grateful to see so many Danbury residents remember the true meaning of giving this year by helping us do what we can to help others who are less fortunate. When we each contribute a little, we benefit the community a great deal.”

Carter was equally enthusiastic about the event's success in raising money to assist those in need. “With several bell-ringing events still left to go before the end of the year, I am excited to see how big of an impact our final donation to the Salvation Army will have on so many well-deserving families this holiday season,” said Carter. “Thank you to all of our generous friends and neighbors who selflessly gave to the red kettle this year.”

Harding and McLachlan shared their thoughts on being involved with the event.

“As my first bell-ringing experience, I’m moved by the sense of community I witnessed in seeing shoppers stop to contribute to our cause,” said Harding. “Together, we are making an incredible difference in the lives of those who are gratified by showing that we care.”

“We thank the people of greater Danbury for their generosity in helping the needy,” McLachlan said. “Your donations will make a positive impact on people’s lives in our region. We also thank WalMart for playing host to these Salvation Army collections across Connecticut.”
