The accident occurred late Tuesday afternoon — the first day of classes at WestConn — as the student crossed White Street in the crosswalk in front of Litchfield Hall.

The student — a 27-year-old male transfer student from Woodbury — was hit by an eastbound car just before 5:30 p.m., WestConn said.

The driver — a 57-year-old woman from Danbury — stopped and waited for police at the scene, according to WLAD-AM.  She told police that she did not see the crosswalk signal lights activated and was given a verbal warning for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, WLAD said.
