Members of the Danbury Police Department’s Special Investigations Division, with the assistance of the Patrol Division, K-9 Division and Community Conditions Unit, executed a search-and-seizure warrant at 3 Duck St. in Danbury, on Duane Perkins, 31, and his vehicle, police said.
The search warrants were issued by Superior Court after police for several months investigated Perkins on suspicion of selling illegal drugs from his vehicle and the residence located at 3 Duck St., the home of his friend, Dontee Heyliger, 31.
The Danbury Police Department had arrested Perkins several months earlier on the same type of activity and reinitiated the investigation when it was learned that he was continuing to sell illegal drugs, police said.
While conducting surveillance before executing the search warrants Thursday, Perkins was seen leaving 3 Duck St. with Heyliger and another man, police said.
The three left in a vehicle driven by the third man, who drove them to a parking lot where Perkins was seen making a suspected drug transaction with another man, later identified as Joseph Romeo, 53, police said.
Officers followed Romeo and arrested him a short distance away, police said.
As Perkins, Heyliger and the other male drove out of the parking lot, a surveillance team followed them to a nearby gas station, police said.
Perkins was placed under arrest on charges in the earlier drug sale, and Heyliger was arrested on an outstanding warrant for his arrest, police said.
After arresting Perkins and Heyliger, investigators proceeded to 3 Duck St., where the search warrants for the residence and Perkins’ vehicle were executed. During the search, a quantity of crack cocaine was found within the residence believed to belong to Perkins and Heyliger, police said.
As a result of our investigation, the three were charged with the listed offenses.
Perkins was charged with risk of injury to a child, possession of crack cocaine, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, sale of crack cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug paraphernalia within 1,500 feet of a school. He was held on $100,000 bond.
Heyliger was charged with risk of injury to a child, possession of crack cocaine, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug paraphernalia within 1,500 feet of a school. He was held on $50,000 bond.
Romeo was charged with possession of crack cocaine and released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
