A self-described drug addict is facing a host of charges after allegedly threatening a Danbury pharmacist with a gun to get amphetamines.

Thomas James Redmond, 22, was arrested on Sunday, July 29, Danbury Police Det. Lt. Mark Williams announced this week, following a brief investigation to an alleged robbery at Rite Aid on Mill Plain Road.

Police said that Redmond, a Ridgefield resident, entered the store, claiming to have a gun, then forced a pharmacist to open a safe and took two bottles of amphetamines.

The employees were able to offer responding police officers with a description of Redmond, who was seen taking off toward the New York border.

Officers were able to track down Redmond, who was found walking on Saw Mill Road, with the stolen amphetamines. While interviewing him, police said that Redmond stated that “he needed the medication because he suffered from addiction.”

Investigators noted that no gun was displayed during the incident, and none was recovered by police.

Redmond was transported to Danbury Police Headquarters, where he was charged with robbery, larceny, possession of a controlled substance, breach of peace and threatening. He was remanded to jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
