State Police Report 4 Fatalities On Connecticut Highways Over Holiday

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. –Four people have been killed on Connecticut highways over the holidays, the State Police reported Saturday.

The Connecticut State Police enforcement operations for the Christmas holiday started at 12:01 Dec. 23 and will run until 11:59 p.m. Dec. 27/15. 

These statistics are from Dec. 23 to 4 p.m. Dec. 26. Four fatalities were reported, up from one fatality last year at this time in the holiday weekend. Here are the locations of those fatal accidents: 

  • Dec. 24 on I-95 at Exit 68 in Old Saybrook, investigated by Troop F; 
  • Dec. 25 on the Litchfield Turnpike in Bethany, investigated by Troop I; 
  • Dec. 25 on Route 6 Bolton, investigated by Troop K; and 
  • Dec 26 on I-84 at Exit 58 in East Hartford, investigated by Troop H.

Here are the rest of the numbers for so far this year, according to the Connecticut State Police:

  • Accidents: 351, 42 with injuries
  • DUI arrests: 19
  • Speeding: 313
  • Seatbelt infractions: 9
  • Hazardous Moving violations (include following too close, distracted driving, cellphones, etc.): 729

Troopers observed a high traffic volume over the past couple days as we approach the Christmas holiday. This State Police enforcement effort will continue through the New Year’s Eve Holiday Celebration. Troopers will continue to conduct enforcement patrols throughout the state on both highways and secondary roads.

In addition, sobriety checkpoints will be set up in an effort to deter anyone from the consumption of alcohol and driving as we approach and celebrate the New Year.

If anyone sees a suspected drunk driver, or dangerous driver, please call 911 and immediately report it.

Last year, from Dec. 23 to 26, according to the Connecticut State Police, there had been: 

  • Accidents: 279, 38 with injury;
  • Fatality: 1, a pedestrian hit by a car in Beacon Falls; 
  • DUI arrests: 19;
  • Speeding: 243; 
  • Seatbelts: 13; and
  • Hazardous moving violations: 706
