New York State Police from the Brewster barracks are continuing to search for a 35-year-old Danbury man who is wanted in connection with a burglary and attempted rape in March.
On Wednesday, state police reissued an earlier alert and said New York State Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,500 reward for information that leads to the location, arrest and conviction of Hector G. Cruz-Diaz of Danbury.
Troopers were dispatched on March 20 to a residence on Main Street in the Village of Brewster on a reported sexual assault. An investigation indicated that Cruz-Diaz unlawfully entered the victim’s home and attempted to rape a 24-year-old female victim.
Cruz-Diaz, who was an acquaintance of the victim, fled the house before officers arrived on the scene, police said.
The Village of Brewster Court issued a warrant ordering Cruz-Diaz's arrest in July. He's wanted on charges of first-degree attempted rape (a Class B felony) and second-degree burglary.
Cruz-Diaz is a Hispanic man who is 5-foot-3 and weighs about 140 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair.
Cruz-Diaz has previously resided in Putnam County.
