DANBURY, Conn. — A man who attempted to pass a fake $100 bill at the carnival at the Danbury Fair Mall was arrested on forgery charges, police said Thursday.

Danbury police were called to the Powers Great American Midway Carnival at the mall at about 7:15 Friday, May 26, on a report of an attempted larceny at a midway game, police said.

Officers determined that Kelvin Vargas, 21, of Manhattan, had attempted to pass a phony $100 bill at one of the games, police said.

Officers discovered that Vargas had in his possession receipts from two other stores in the mall — Gymboree and Bath & Body Works, police said.

Officers investigated and determined that Vargas had passed fake bills at those two locations as well, police said.

Vargas was charged with three counts of first-degree forgery, two counts of sixth-degree larceny and one count of sixth-degree criminal attempt at larceny. He was held on $25,000 bond.
