According to the Danbury Police, Rodney T. Cooper, of Latham, N.Y., turned himself in to Danbury police after a warrant was issued for his arrest. In the case, the company he was working for charged a 71-year-old Danbury resident $5,875 to pave his driveway, police said. According to police, the driveway began to crumble and come apart with the first rain.
Cooper was charged with second-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny. He was released on $10,000 bail.
Danbury Police Det. Chris Carroccio said that Jaime Young, 39, turned herself in to the Danbury Police Department on a warrant on June 22. Young was charged with second-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit larceny. She was held on $10,000 bail.
She is accused, along with Dean Cooper, 34, of Winchester, Ky., and Rodney Cooper, of operating Affordable Paving business without a business license.
Dean Cooper, who was held on $10,000 bail, was charged with second-degree larceny and second-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, police said.
Carroccio said the fact that the company was unlicensed is what made the operation illegal. Otherwise, it would be considered a civil matter, he said.
Police are continuing the investigation in conjunction with the state Consumer Protection Agency.
