But they are handing out plenty of tickets.
Troopers are focusing on drunken driving violations, aggressive drivers, distracted drivers and speeding. Sobriety checkpoints and targeted DUI patrols are also in place over the entire weekend.
Here are the State Police statistics from 12:01 a.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Sunday:
- Speeding: 515
- Seat belt violations: 22
- Total moving violations: 1,295 (including unsafe lane change, following too closely, cellphone, texting, etc.)
- DUI arrests: 26
- Accidents: 221 investigated, 34 with injury and no fatalities
For comparison, here are the 2016 Labor Day statistics:
- Speeding: 1.699
- Seatbelt violations: 165
- Total moving violations: 3,552 (including unsafe lane change, following too closely, cellphone/texting, etc.)
- DUI arrests: 51
- Accidents: 283 investigated, with 43 with injuries and no fatalities
Troopers are using both traditional and nontraditional patrol cars as part of the enforcement, which started at 12:01 a.m. Friday and will run through 11:59 p.m. Tuesday.
