Man Killed In Two-Vehicle I-84 Crash, CT State Police Say

One Connecticut man is dead and another seriously injured after one of the vehicles crossed the center-median into oncoming traffic on I-84, according to authorities.

The crash took place in New Haven County in Middlebury on I-84 around 7 a.m., Thursday, April 7, said the Connecticut State Police.

John Paul Dowling, age 72, of Naugatuck was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.

Tolland County resident John Fredrick Dutton, age 64, of Tolland was taken to Waterbury Hospital with serious injuries, they added.

The crash happened when Dowling’s 2021 Subaru Outback traveled across the median, and into the west lanes, striking Dutton’s 2018 Honda Accord Touring, state police said.

The crash is under investigation.
