Man In 'Altered Mental' State Busted With Guns, Drugs In CT, Police Say

A Connecticut man who held police at bay for several hours last week has been charged with alleged criminal possession of weapons and drugs.

New Haven County resident Eric Warren, age 50, of Ansonia, was arrested on Tuesday, March 14 on a warrant for the Wednesday, March 8 incident at his home.

During the original incident, Ansonia Police responded to Warren's home on a report of a person in an altered mental state acting irrationally and armed with a handgun, said Lt. Patrick Lynch.

Lynch said when police arrived, Warren refused to exit the home when contacted by the police. After several hours, with the assistance of a relative, Warren was convinced to exit the house where he was taken into protective custody and transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

A search warrant at the home located two firearms, crack cocaine, and packaging materials, police said.

Warren was charged with:

  • Two counts of criminal possession of a firearm
  • Possession of narcotics
  • Possession of narcotics with intent to sell
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia 
  • Disorderly conduct

He was released after posting a $75,000 bond.
