Danbury Police Warn Residents Of Scam Phone Calls

DANBURY, Conn. -- The Danbury Police Department is warning residents to not fall victim to phone scams reported in the area.

The Danbury Police has received three complaints in the last several days of the following phone scam.

"The victims are receiving two types of phone calls. One is telling them that their family members are  being held hostage and need to pay a ransom. The other is their family member has been in a serious accident and are in need of medical treatment which will be denied unless payment is made upfront," police said in a statement.

The recipients of such calls should make every effort to contact the family member in question. They should also call the police department before sending any money, police said.

Similar phone scams have been reported in other area towns in the past few weeks.
