The incident began when a resident on Wilson Street reported to police that a suspicious vehicle occupied by several Hispanic males had pulled into her driveway at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday, police said. She told police she watched as they did "something" along the bush line of her property, according to police reports.
After the men left, the resident went outside and found a handgun in a cloth bag, which she placed on her porch and called 911, police said.
Officers responded and took possession of the firearm but were unable to find the suspects, according to police. About a half-hour later, the resident called back and told officers that the same car had returned to the scene and that a man was again looking in the bushes, police said.
Officers were in the area and located Jose Pacheco, 29, who took off running but was caught by officers a short time later in a backyard, police said.
Once under arrest, police discovered Pacheco was in possession of heroin and Ecstasy, according to police reports.
He was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics within a school zone and interfering with a police officer. Pacheco was released on $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 22.
Police said the case is still under investigation.
