Officers responded to a call at about 11:50 p.m. and found the car driven by Matthew Branche submerged up to its roof in the lake, police said.
Witnesses pointed out the car's location to Officers Andrew Katckocin and Dayleth Scantling when they arrived. A hand was seen waving from the driver's window, police said.
The responding officers swam out to the vehicle, which was about 50 feet from shore, and found Branche trapped inside the car with water up to his neck, police said.
Responders were able to open the car door and get Branche safely to shore, police said.
A preliminary investigation found Branche was traveling north on East Hayestown Road when he lost control of his vehicle at Hayestown Road, police said.
The investigation is continuing, police said. Witnesses are asked to contact Officer Anderson 203-797-4611 Ext. 626
