DANBURY, Conn. - A 32-year-old man has been arrested to face charges in a home invasion turned hostage situation in Danbury last month, police said.

Kerlyn Taveras was extradited to Danbury on Tuesday and arraigned on Wednesday, police said.

Danbury police said they received information on May 30 about an incident at a Danbury home on May 28. The investigation found that the suspect had held several people against their will while armed with a gun and committed "further criminal acts against them" over several hours, police said.

On June 3, Danbury police were granted an extraditable warrant for Tavares' arrest. On June 6, he was taken into custody by New York City Police officers in Brooklyn. He was arraigned there and initially did not waive extradition.

Tavares was held at Rikers Island, where he later waived extradition and was turned over to Danbury police on Tuesday.

Taveras was charged with first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, unlawful restraint, aggravated sexual assault, home invasion, risk of injury, second-degree assault with a firearm, third-degree assault and three counts of first-degree threatening.

He was held on $750,000 bond and arraigned in Danbury Superior Court on Wednesday.

The investigation of the incident was continuing, police said.
