Danbury Man Arrested On Drug Charge In Southeast

SOUTHEAST, N.Y. -- A Danbury, Conn., man is facing a drug charge after his arrest in Southeast, according to Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith.

Members of the Sheriff’s Department Special Conditions Unit observed suspicious activity in the parking lot of the Towne Center on Route 22 in Southeast about 1:55 a.m. Saturday, police said. 

Further investigation revealed Bruno L. Souza, 23, of 31 Maple Drive, Danbury, had a quantity of cocaine in his possession, police said. He also was wanted on a bench warrant issued by the Southeast Justice Court, police said. 

He was arrested and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Souza was arraigned before Carmel Town Justice Joseph Spofford and taken to the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held on $1,750 cash or bond, pending a future appearance in Southeast Justice Court.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, Souza could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
