Firefighters were dispatched to the home at around 3:30 a.m. for a report of a structure fire. Units arrived on scene to fine heavy smoke coming from the side of the building, and notified dispatch and responding units that they had a working fire.
The homeowner met with the firefighters and said that the family had been alerted by smoke detectors that were installed in the home. Everyone was out safely, and he had used an extinguisher to keep the fire at bay until firefighters arrived, according to fire officials.
Units stretched a hand-line into the structure and quickly knocked down the remaining fire. They completed overhaul as needed by the Danbury Fire Marshal's office, and ventilated the home of any remaining smoke.
After they completed, the scene was turned over to the homeowner. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, fire officials said.
