Court Continues Sex Case Against WestConn Professor Until January

SOMERS, N.Y. -- Paul Hines, a Western Connecticut State University professor charged with having sex with a 15-year-old Somers boy, appeared briefly in court Monday, according to the NewsTimes.com.

The case was continued to Jan. 13 in Somers Town Justice Court.

Hines, a 73-year-old Danbury resident, is accused of having sex with the teen at his New York home after they met on the Internet. Hines said the boy had claimed to be 19, a ccording to a New York State Police report.

Hines, an organic chemistry professor at WestConn, was charged with third-degree criminal sexual act and endangering the welfare of a child. He is free on $50,000 bond.

His wife, Ann Hines, started the Hanohoe Children's Clinic, which provided free health care to children without health insurance, in Danbury.

Paul Hines is one of the founders of the Dorothy Day Hospitality House, which provides food and shelter for the homeless in Danbury.

Attorney Leonard Proto is trying to keep Hines' case in the local Somers court.
