At about 10:35 a.m., a Danbury Police Officer working an extra-duty job in the area of Main Street and Center Street saw a vehicle that he knew to be stolen, police said.
The officer approached the vehicle, at which point the driver took off, police said. The officer followed the car in his own personal vehicle and called it into dispatch, according to police.
The stolen vehicle traveled south on Mountainville Road, where it then went off the road in the area of 13 Mountainville Road — near the border with Bethel and Redding — and rolled over, police reported.
An adult male operator and adult female passenger were both transported to Danbury Hospital for serious injuries, according to police.
The Connecticut State Police will be conducting the investigation into the crash, and the Danbury Police Department will be conducting an internal investigation, police said.
The Danbury police officer involved in the pursuit, who was not identified, was not injured.
Mountainville Road, near Rogers Park, was shut down from South Street in Danbury to Reservoir Street in Bethel due to the ongoing investigation.
The News-Times reported that the two people were ejected from the car, with pieces of the car spread across the lawn along with a pizza delivery sign that attaches to the top of a car.
