Approximately 120 firefighters from multiple municipalities in Fairfield and Litchfield counties were dispatched at approximately 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, to the blaze at an adhesive tape company on Francis J. Clarke Circle Business Park.

The fire raged for several hours, with crews battling to get inside the building. It was ultimately declared under control at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Sunday night, though firefighters remained at the scene for several hours to monitor flare-ups and any hot spots.

Inside the business park, one of the companies that occupy the space makes tape adhesives, and there were flammable materials inside.

No one was inside the building at the time that the fire broke out. No injuries were reported. The building sustained “significant damage,” officials said. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was called to the scene to evaluate and test the air and water, though both were deemed safe. Businesses in the building were closed on Monday morning.

“Bethel and Stony Hill FD along with numerous mutual aid companies from Fairfield County are operating at a large commercial fire in the Francis J Clarke business park,” the Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Company posted on Facebook. “Please avoid the area.”
