Manuel Machado, 91, Danbury WW II Veteran

DANBURY, Conn. – Manuel Machado of Danbury died Sept. 24 at Danbury Hospital. He was 91. 

Machado was born Dec. 22, 1920, in Plymouth, Mass., to Antonio R. and Louisa Machado. He attended school in Bristol, R.I., and served in the Army's 36th Infantry Division during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart for wounds received in battle in the European Theater.  

A foreman, Machado worked for the Danbury Rubber Company. He also worked as a line mechanic for National Can Company until his retirement. 

Machado is survived by a sister, Anna Fox, of Taunton, Mass.; a daughter, Priscilla Brown, of Danbury; a son, Manuel Machado Jr., of Ontario, Calif.; his stepmother, Alexandrina Machado; a stepsister, Emilia Costa; eight grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Angelina Machado; and a son, George M. Machado. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Green Funeral Home in Danbury. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
