Katherine 'Kathy' Evans, 81, Former Nurse, of Danbury

DANBURY, Conn. – Katherine "Kathy" Evans, a longtime Danbury resident, died Jan. 19 at Danbury Hospital. She was 81.

Evans was born May 16, 1931, in Waterbury, Conn., to Charles Anson and Alberta Bronson Coe. She grew up on Transylvania Road in Woodbury on the family farm.

In 1948, she entered nursing school at White Plains Hospital. After becoming a registered nurse, Evans worked at Danbury Hospital and Phelps Memorial Hospital in Tarrytown, N.Y.

She moved to Danbury in 1965 after marrying Tom Evans and raised six children. She was an avid fan of the Danbury High School football team, on which her four sons played in the late ’70s and ’80s. She and her husband could be often seen cheering in the stands.

Her family said that she loved quiet moments in her flower garden and playing the keyboard. Evans also worked for the Danbury News-Times during the ’80s and ’90s.

She is survived by six children, Sheri (Paul) Ramsdell, of Cutchogue, N.Y., Tom (Kim) Evans Jr., of Hermon, Maine, Christine (Jim) Lawlor, of Danbury, Daniel (Lisa) Evans, of Fort Mill, S.C., Michael (Valerie) Evans, of Grafton, Mass., and Robert (Jennifer) Evans, of Danbury; a sister, Esther Ludorf, of Woodbury; 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephew. She was predeceased by her husband.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Ridgebury Congregational Church in Ridgefield, with the Rev. John Heeckt officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery in Danbury. Green Funeral Home in Danbury is handling arrangements.
