His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama told a sold-out crowd in Danbury that actions are more important than prayers Oct. 18 at Western Connecticut State University. His talk, titled "The Art of Compassion," focused on the troubles in our world and offered suggestions for healing those troubles through inner peace.

The Dalai Lama told the crowd jealousy and distrust ruin relationships and cause problems in our lives. He also added that inner peace can be achieved through prayer and fully utilizing one’s intelligence.

More than 3,500 people attended the event, with tickets ranging from $20 for bleacher seats to $250 for premium seats. People from around the region traveled to Danbury for the event.

Actor Richard Gere introduced the Dalai Lama, with whom he has been friends with for more than 30 years. The Dalai Lama also gave a second public talk, called "Advice for Daily Life," on Oct. 19. It was sold out also. Both events were live-streamed to other university locations for those who were unable to get tickets.
