Some Of America's Most Diverse Cities Are Right Here In Fairfield County

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Fairfield County's four largest cities are all among the most diverse cities in the country, according to a new study by WalletHub.

The Daily Voice is closing out 2017 by looking back at some of the most popular stories of the year. A study by WalletHub released in May found that several Fairfield County cities were among the most diverse in the country.

Stamford, Danbury, Norwalk and Bridgeport were all named among the 30 most diverse cities in the new study. The WalletHub study assessed the 501 largest cities in the country and assigned each a score based on socioeconomic diversity, cultural diversity, economic diversity, household diversity and religious diversity. It also looked at the most diverse types of cities according to size: large cities (more than 300,000 residents), midsize cities (between 100,000 and 300,000 residents) and small cities (less than 100,000 residents).

The most diverse city in the country was New York City, which had a total score of 71.73. The least diverse city in the country was Bangor, Maine, which had a total score of 53.83

Stamford was the most diverse Fairfield County city, and third most diverse midsize city. It had a total score of 70.67. It ranked 12th in socioeconomic diversity, 23rd in cultural diversity, 340th in economic diversity, 254th in household diversity and 160th in religious diversity.

Danbury was the 13th most diverse city overall, and fourth most diverse small city, with a total score of 70.49. It ranked 54th in socioeconomic diversity, 40th in cultural diversity, 146th in economic diversity, 146th in household diversity and 160th in religious diversity.

Norwalk ranked as the 23rd most diverse city overall, and eighth most diverse small city, with a total score of 69.96. It ranked 22nd in socioeconomic diversity, 58th in cultural diversity, 183rd in economic diversity, 261st in household diversity and 160th in religious diversity.

Bridgeport ranked as the 26th most diverse overall, and seventh most diverse midsize city, with a total score of 69.69. It ranked 343rd in socioeconomic diversity, 14th in cultural diversity, 271st in economic diversity, 19th in household diversity and 160th in religious diversity.
