Metro-North Service Still Suspended Saturday Morning

Update 7:15 a.m. — Metro-North service remained suspended Saturday morning.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Due to storm conditions and projections of heavy snowfall accumulations, Metro-North Railroad will suspend service beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced.

The last New Haven Line departure from Grand Central Terminal will be at 10:22 p.m., making all stops to New Haven; the last train to Grand Central Terminal left at 9:17 p.m., making all stops from New Haven to Grand Central, according to the Metro-North website.

Metro-North service will be suspended until further notice on the New Haven, Harlem and Hudson Lines as well as all connecting service.

With the significant snowfall and high winds, the risk of a train becoming disabled with customers onboard increases significantly, Metro-North said. The railroad stopped service to ensure customer safety and to allow employees to conduct snow-fighting operations to keep the right of way as clear as possible, the railroad said.

In addition, Amtrak and Shore Line East train service have also been suspended. Amtrak is planning to resume service at 11 a.m. Saturday. Shore Line East Service service is suspended until further notice.

In addition, Grand Central Terminal will close after the last trains arrive, at about midnight.

Shutting down the system allows Metro-North to secure and protect its equipment and infrastructure, the railroad said.
