Mayor Mark Boughton Returns Home To Danbury After Brain Surgery

DANBURY, Conn. — He's home: Danbury's favorite son, Mayor Mark Boughton, is back after undergoing surgery last week to remove a benign brain tumor.

"Home with my baby. #ellie," Boughton announced Wednesday via Twitter, along with a picture of his beloved dog curled up by his feet.

Dr. Robert Friedlander successfully removed a lemon-size tumor, which was located behind Boughton's left ear. The surgery was performed Aug. 8 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Boughton, 53, was released from the hospital two days after the surgery, then remained in Pittsburgh until his stitches were removed.

The tumor is known as an Intracranial epidermoid cyst. The popular mayor was recently diagnosed after suffering from severe headaches since January, the News-Times said. He went to the Emergency Room at Danbury Hospital after suffering blurry vision, the News-Time said.

City Council President Joseph Cavo took over work duties for Boughton, who told the News-Times he plans to be back in City Hall on Monday.

Boughton will work three or four hours a day for the first week and return full-time after Labor Day, the News-Times said.

Boughton is up for re-election this fall for what a ninth term, and he is a Republican candidate for governor in 2018.
